The Red Goat Climbing Wall

The Red Goat Climbing Wall is York's dedicated bouldering centre, established to bring accessible rope-free climbing to the local community. Housed inside an industrial space on Redeness Street, the facility offers circuit-graded bouldering problems reset on a weekly cycle across slabs, steep overhangs, and technical vertical faces. Continuous safety matting runs beneath every route. Climbers gather here for focused training on the campus boards and system wall, or to work through freshly set problems ranging from introductory circuits to severe tests. The atmosphere is grounded, social, and driven by climbing enthusiasts, complemented by an on-site café serving coffee, freshly baked goods, and hot food after sessions. Visitors can register online in advance or complete safety waivers at reception on arrival, making drop-in climbing straightforward for solo visitors, university clubs, and dedicated regulars.
