Monkey Bar boulder

Located along the Kraft Mountain Loop Trail in the Calico Basin area of Red Rock Canyon, the Monkey Bar boulder is one of Southern Nevada's most frequented outdoor sandstone problems. Named for its signature horizontal roof and positive incut jugs, this Aztec sandstone block draws local bouldering enthusiasts and visiting climbers looking for classic movement. The climbing surface features friction-dependent sandstone with crisp crimps, distinct huecos, and solid heel-hooking opportunities. Conditions are prime from late autumn through early spring when desert temperatures cool down and rock friction peaks. Climbers gather informally throughout the day, sharing crash pads and beta under the canyon skyline. Access is open and unmetered through public Bureau of Land Management trails, requiring no reservations or entry fees, though adherence to Leave No Trace principles and waiting 24 to 48 hours after rain is critical to protect the fragile rock.
